Automated rollable tables, the ability to organize the data easier, searchable reference guides (digital version of the core books), and the data will always be more up to date than the printed editions. You are really getting other features that the other formats can not give you. Technically you can enter all of your materials by hand and spend 300+ hours per book, or you can re-buy them as you said and enjoy the fact that it's already been done.
